TRIGGER WARNING MAGAZINE
TRIGGER WARNING was created as my Senior Thesis at LMU, but quickly grew to represent a movement happening beyond the university gates.
The magazine focused on the dividing qualities of political correctness and free speech on campuses in an age where words are both losing their meaning while gaining potency. It was extremely important to me that I did not include articles that criticize PC terms that protected races religion, and victims, but rather draw attention to specific situations where censorship was misconstrued as sensitivity. This publication asks, “how is this new movement denying solutions to real problems,” and “how can we modify language to protect others, without infringing upon our education?”
* Unfortunately, the 2016 U.S Presidential Election tainted the concept behind the magazine – extremists started using the terms “trigger warning,” “PC Police,” and “censorship” in a weaponized manner. Years later, I wonder how my viewpoint has changed to reflect the growing unease of censorship, and ultimately fascism, in the U.S education system.
